Today, technology has become a boon but the lost ancient technology were much more loftier than of today. A lot of our tasks have become easier than before. From rocket science to mobile technology, it has advanced terribly fast. This technology trend wouldn’t have been with us, unless great scholars that arrived before us took the burden of understanding what we have today. Now, not getting deeper into the current trends, let’s take a look through the lost ancient technology about which you didn’t know.
The list below gives you a peek through the lost ancient technology names:
- The Great Pyramids Of Giza
- Non-Rusting Iron Pillar Of Delhi
- The Baghdad’s Battery
- Viking Compass
- Rocks Of Sacsayhuamán
This belongs to one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. It was built 4500 years ago in the west of Cairo. People living here have speculated on the designing and building of these pyramids. The Egyptians constructed these only with rudimentary tools and not heavy machinery. It took around 20 years for each pyramid to be built.
The size and structures of such ancient technology are marvelous. They have an orientation of 1/15th in all four directions. The Pyramid of Giza is a well aligned structure today. It is located at the center of the earth’s land mass. Thus, with all this evidence, it has come to be known that the Egyptians did have some ancient technology.
The Iron Pillar in Delhi is over a thousand years old and has never rusted. Stainless steel that came in around 1913 to prevent resting. This signifies that even before technology came into the picture, such an ancient monument was achieved in the reign of King Chandra. It is 7.2m long and weighs around 3000kgs with a diameter of 16-inches.
This has remained preserved due to the lack of rusting. This is due to a thin protective layer. Scientists have said that this layer got immediately oxidized but protected the iron pillar from inside. After hundreds of years, we lost this ancient technique.
A tube of copper; rod of iron; and a ceramic pot, are the three elements of this Baghdad battery. It was found in Iraq around 150 BCE to 650 AD. The objective of this battery is not known but theory says that it is used for electrotherapy or electroplating. But, other academic resources say that it was meant only for storage purposes. Though these didn’t cross the limit of giving out and inventing electricity, they were almost on the verge of it.
The Viking compass known as Vegvísir is made of eight Viking enchantments. It is believed that it could give the same accuracy as that of the GPS today. Sunstones were used to traverse through the sea. These eight stones indicate the eight directions that we use today i.e., North, South, East, West, North-East, South East, North-West, and South West. Currently, the compass acts as a symbol and source of spiritual guidance.
Sacsayhuaman is made up of stones that weigh 50-tonnes. These stones are cut very precisely and gathered or arranged in a perfect manner. Modern-day engineers are daunt by the vision of such a masterpiece. The rocks stand 3701m high above sea level in Peru. there are certain places where it has bent corners which signify how soft these are.
It was constructed between 3000 BCE and 2000 BCE. 75 giant stones were required to construct this which led to this becoming a UNESCO World Heritage Site & British Icon. The transportation of these stones, the construction techniques when there were no super-fast systems available is a signal that these prominent models showcase lost old ancient technology. This place is being used to predict eclipses, solstices, equinoxes, etc. The structure is also considered as an old antecedent for modern technology.
There are uncountable amazing technology of the ancient world. Some have either reached the hands of humans, while some got buried under the ground due to wars. But, knowing of our lost ancient technology is mainly to remember the roots from where all of this that we have today has come from and would also lead to a better tomorrow.
